Meet the Investing Across Borders Team

The team members are:

  • John Millies Anderson

    John Millies Anderson

    John Millies Anderson joined the Investing Across Borders team in 2011, and is responsible for the Converting and Transferring Currency indicator. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, John designed and managed USAID-funded development projects and analyzed food security conditions for the United Nations. He has lived and worked in Bangladesh, Kenya, and Malawi. John holds a master’s degree concentrating in economics and public policy from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School and a BA in economics from Swarthmore College. He speaks Spanish and is learning French.

  • Joseph Battat

    Joseph Battat

    Joseph Battat is a Senior Consultant to the World Bank Group and Investing Across Borders’s project advisor. Mr. Battat joined the World Bank Group in 1989 where he has held a number of positions since, including the head of its Foreign Investment Advisory Services (FIAS) [now the Facility for Investment Climate Advisory Services, as well as its Program Manager for the Middle East and North Africa, East Europe and Central Asia, China and Mongolia. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Mr. Battat was a Marketing Systems Engineer at IBM Canada [1968-72] and a member of the faculty, School of Business, Indiana University [1982-89]. He was the founding Co-Dean of the first MBA program in China [1978-86], and helped establish the International Management Center, Budapest [1987-88]. He chairs the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Current World Affairs, a not-for-profit, fellowship granting organization, located in the United States. Mr. Battat received a Master of Science in Electronics Physics from Université de Grenoble [France] in 1968, a Diploma in Political Philosophy from Beijing University [China] in 1978, and Doctorate of Philosophy in International Business and Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1984.

  • Tania Ghossein

    Tania Ghossein

    Tania Ghossein joined the Investing Across Borders team in 2009. She is responsible for the Starting a Foreign Business indicators and coordinates the project in the Middle East and North Africa as well as high-income OECD regions. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Tania worked as a corporate lawyer and as a documentary credit analysis officer in Beirut, Lebanon. She then moved on to work at the Embassy of Jordan in Washington D.C. Tania holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in international and comparative law from the George Washington University Law School and a law degree from the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut, Lebanon. She speaks Arabic and French and is learning Spanish.

  • Peter Kusek

    Peter Kusek

    Peter Kusek is the co-manager of the Investing Across Borders project. Prior to joining the World Bank Group in 2006, Peter worked on small-enterprise development and microfinance in Bangladesh and Tanzania. He was also program manager at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington-based foreign and security policy think tank. Peter holds a master’s degree in economic policy and international development from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He speaks German, Russian, French, and his native Slovak.

  • Sophie Pouget

    Sophie Pouget

    Sophie Pouget joined the Investing Across Borders team in 2011 and is responsible for the Arbitrating Commercial Disputes indicators. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, she practiced international arbitration and litigation for five years as an associate with the law firm Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier in Paris where she handled several large international commercial arbitration cases (in the defense, nuclear energy, pharmaceutical and publishing industries) under a variety of applicable laws, regulations and arbitration rules. She holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School, Tufts University, and is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris and the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. She speaks French and is learning Russian and Arabic.

  • Tanya Primiani

    Tanya Primiani

    Tanya Primiani joined the Investing Across Borders team in 2008 and is the co-manager of the project. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, she worked for the United Nations in Italy, Siemens Management Consulting in New York and at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC. She holds a law degree from the University of Montreal and an MA from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She speaks Italian, French, Spanish and is learning Arabic.
